Only in Switzerland!

Charming churches in every little neighborhood. Often perched high on hill tops with majestic lights at night. Next time I’ll post the bells ringing; every church rings their bells on the quarter hour.

Speaks for itself!

Children can make a snowman with only snow flurries. They shovel astroturf.

Dogs are welcomed, and pampered, everywhere!

I’m used to height restrictions on roads, but have you seen signs for narrow roads?
Only in Switzerland do they speak three different languages. I get really confused going into the German and French speaking parts. This, and the signs below, were to tell me which locker room to use, however I had no clue! They didn't have picture icons either; confusing!

Zermatt Wonderland!

Snow in late February is rare in Lugano, and it was poor timing for wanting clear weather on my much anticipated Glacier Express train ride. (Actually we rode on the same tracks, but not in the special train cars.) As Judy and I walked down to the train station we worried we would be in a whiteout all day. It was a 5+ hour train ride with 4 transfers. It was supposed to be a spectacular ride, on clear days! The sky cleared some, but then when we got to Zermatt, it started snowing pretty hard. :( To our delight we woke to crystal clear skies contrasted to the brilliant white snow. It was spectacular, and the pictures say it way better than my words can express the beauty.

Look for the church!

The snow field is actually steeper than it looks.
I don't know how people got to their houses/cabins.

Zermatt

No private cars are allowed in Zermatt.

You can't even drive your car to Zermatt.
People use these carts to get their things to their hotels.

They bike all year here. They even carry their skis and boards on their bikes!

Matterhorn!

Gornergot

In Gornergrat, 10,132 feet.

You can rent an electric van to haul your things.

Love the churches perched high on the hills!

He had just finished raking the snow off the roof.

They go down the mountains on these sleds!

Our train!
